What is IP Address

A number which identifies the location of a client (web surfer) upon the Internet. In theory this is a unique number which can be used to identify separate visitors. An IP address serves two principal functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing.
IP addresses can be considered sensitive information.

To Track IP address

1. Login your Gmail account
2. Click the mail you desire to check
3. Click button the arrow, at the right of "Reply" [inverted Triangle symbol next to Reply]
4. Press the Show Original"
A new screen will appear from there you note the "received from" IP address
Example: 193.105.34.62 Then copy and paste it to any IP locator and it will display details.

 The only problem with that is that the IP address displayed is sometimes the email server's IP and not that of the sender.
The IP of those who send from a Gmail address is hidden.
Gmail gave a explanation for this :
Don't worry -- we aren't enabling spammers to abuse the system by not revealing IP addresses. Gmail uses many innovative spam filtering mechanisms to ensure that spammers have a hard time sending bulk emails that arrive in users inbox
